China’s State Council said Wednesday that ‘‘temporary price intervention measures’’ will be imposed if necessary for daily necessities, amid the continuing rise of consumer prices in the country. China’s inflation in October, measured by the consumer price index, shot up to a 25-month high of 4.4%. Food prices surged 10.1 percent.

‘‘There is importance and urgency of stabilizing market prices,’’ the State Council, China’s cabinet, said in a statement after a meeting. It vowed to curb excessive speculation and crack down on illegal activities. In addition, it request related departments and regional governments to organize an emergency subsidy system targeting poor families and students in rural areas struggling to cope with the rising prices.
